New NOS unpainted grill RR birdhead

Post by CtownRunner » Mon Jul 09, 2007 4:53 pm

I just won 1 of 4 NOS unpainted grill birdhead emblems.

I recall someone else here got one. Did anyone figure out the correct or close color match for those.

I guess I'll need yellow and purple and black.

Any helpful hints out there?

Thanks

Chris

The yellow beak on the originals was unpainted plastic...so you won't need yellow!

I have one and Eric is correct, the bird is already yellow,The purple I have tried several purples but none correct.I might try and use the purple from the horn,I have a can that I purchased from totally auto inc. The flat black is easy.P.S. I have test dummies .8)

The horn purple will be way too light. It's pretty dark on original ones that haven't faded in the sun. IIRC, a buddy of mine used Testors paints for the purple and yellow (on his original, the yellow plastic was badly faded) and cleared over them. Was a very close match. The black is a medium/low gloss.

I used an air brush to do mine. Someone here suggested that I try nail polish. So I went to a nail and hair style place and bought a bunch of different purples that were close. I found one that matched. After it was painted I cleared over it. Looks good. And as a perk I dated the 31 year old hottie nail chick that helped me (not bad for a 50 year old fart). Now she cuts my hair for free.

I, too, bought one of those last Fall. Sitting in a box awaiting paint.

You know, i wish that the GTX came with an option that included "THE BIRD", a smaller emblem perhaps or maybe a different color scheme, i don't know but I think it would be kind of interesting, I mean some models are called Roadrunner/GTX, right?......just wishing :D
