U code road runner on ebay
Heres a rare bird! Too bad I'm a year late, I'd snap this one up. Check it out. RM23U2R vin. Now I drooled all over my puter. I thought you could only get the 440 with the GTX package. I dont know if it would have made a difference for insurance purposes. Or maybe the buyer just wanted a RR with a 440. There was some weird **** that came from mother mopar in those days. I had a 71 RR that had power windows but it wasnt noted on the data tag, instead it had an additional fender tag that just said POWER WINDOWS. (well it didnt really talk to me, it was stamped).

RM23U2R. Interesting, fender tag and buildsheet both show that VIN, but car has no GTX markings. Hopefully Eric can chime in on whether he thinks the fender tag is real, but I know the seller has a less than stellar reputation on Moparts... Not to mention, there are things about what has and HASN'T been done on the car that would make me leary of dropping that much coin on it...

Yes Bruce there are a couple of questionable things on that car. The lack of GTX emblems makes me wonder, but I'm not gonna pick, cause the last time I did that I got jumped all over.

All 440 cars have torque boxes so that is one easy way to tell.
Looks like a legit 72 RR/GTX car ... a pretty much zero option car too.
No cut out for the exhaust tips.
Standard plain bench seat, door panel, steering wheel, no decore package.
Optional
E86 440 4v
D34 Troqueflite
G37 Chrome mirrors L&R
N23 Elect. Ign.
N85 Tach (only standard inst cluster on car???)
Not an original hood pin optioned car (added)
Needs to put the RR decals down by the scripts.

Nothing in the photos would lead me to believe it was not a real 440 car. The GTX was only a package for 72 (rather than a separate model as in previous years)....so yes it would have an RM VIN. Looks like a 70K plus mile car that got a repaint and they didn't redo the stripes and emblems correctly (quarter birds in wrong location, trunk bird wrong placement, no GTX badging/ fender callouts).
AKA Butterscotch71....the road runner nest is out to win you over this year!
Actually the quarter birds should be right in front of the "road runner" badging. Every 440 runner in 72 had the GTX package (that's what defined it as having the GTX package). I'm saying the car would have had the GTX specific decals/emblems from the factory, and when it was repainted they simply didn't put everything back the way it was originally built.mopar71 wrote:Eric, The bird should be right above the words ROAD RUNNER right? so this car is a roadrunner with a 440 but without the gtx package?
Mine had three "GTX" stick on emblems. One behind each front wheel and one on the trunk. For some reason my trunk emblem was on the left, but should have been on the right, next to the round "standing bird" emblem. Have no idea why it was put in the wrong (left) side but I put it back where it was when I bought the car.Eric wrote:Actually the quarter birds should be right in front of the "road runner" badging. I don't think there were any decals that had any reference to GTX.
I saw a comment about "cutouts for the exhaust tips". Mine has two small semi-circular cutouts on the panel under the rear bumper, but never had exhaust tips installed.
