It was either black or argent, not plain chrome.

Argent I believe. I have a set on mine but they were painted completely black somewhere along the line.

every original set I've seen had the inset painted black

Only one part number in the parts book.........black is the original color.

Sorry if my response caused any confusion. I didn't mean to imply they were either black OR argent, I was trying to say I knew they were one or the other, but NOT plain chrome. That's the trouble with an OLD memory!
