You read my mind, I was just about to ask that question.
Is mine chrome or black? My 71 GTX (build date Oct '70) has the inside hood release option, and I don't know if it's black or chrome because it's broken off. Also I do not have the petal dressup package.
I do have another question, why does the fender tag say"F81" (inside trunk release) when the car never came with it? Unless I'm wrong, I thought you push the button in the glove box to open the trunk. Only it's not there.. I'm confused..

You have a Windsor built car, don't ya?

That F81 is on a number of cars built at Windsor, and I've never been able to figure out exactly what it's all about. Best I've ever been able to determine it's NOT the trunk release. Best guess is that it has some special meaning for just that plant.

I have just the chrome handle. The wire snapped about 1/2" from the end of the handle. I don't think it will do anyone any good though because there is no easy way to take the handle apart to put in a new wire.

Hey Dave
I finally found and bought a chrome handle hood release on ebay...it was really expensive! Here's a pic of it installed for anyone interested.

AKA Butterscotch71....the road runner nest is out to win you over this year!

Eric,
That does look great. I'll be keeping my eye out for one for mine, I guess. At least for now I do have a black one that will be serviceable for the time being.

I have a 71 GTX build date is 9/24, LA plant, without the pedal dress up option (as far as I can tell) and it has a chrome handle.

My Windsor built car has that on the fender tag as well. Trying to figure it out, too.

I have had a mix of 71 cars early and late production all have chrome handles, none with a pedal dress package
