Reproduction carpet (heel pad in particular)

Post by 71Satellite98661 » Thu Jul 24, 2014 9:34 pm

What is up with these aftermarket carpet kits from Year One (ACC I think) that are coming with pre-71 heel pads?! This has been the case for at least 20 years now. I'm wondering if an E-body carpet would fit just fine. Correct heel pad, just maybe wouldn't have as much overlap between front and rear sections?

When you say heel pad, are you talking about the shape? If that is the case, I have been through this with Year None, and when I showed them pictures of 5 to 7 survivors with a different shape pad than what they sell ( ACC ) they just blew me off and said " well you're the only on that has complained ", so I made them take the carpet back, and have me one made with an E body pad, which is as close as we can get, but it also made be the exact same thing.

Legendary claims that their heelpads are as the originals. Their price for front + rear showed as $175. I need to replace mine one of these days. Based on advice from numerous people about quality and likeness to original, I would go to Legendary for any interior pieces they have that I need. Their online searches have a lot of products with no photo. Sometimes it's easier to find something by downloading the catalog.

I don't think Legendary makes their own carpet, maybe they do but I don't think so.

Info on their website about company history seems to be saying that they have their own manufacturing....

Either way, they seem to be favored.

I bought year one last year and agree that its not correct, but I have read that the year one (ACC) molding of the floor is the superior one in comparison to some of the others. Another note (which I hope it doesn't happen to me) is the biggest complaint I have read with ACC is that their black carpet fades and turns purple in less than 5 years, even if the car is garage stored.

Yes 71bird, the shape. The one Year One keeps sending out is 66-70 style; perfect rectangle. I think I might give an E-body carpet a try next time. I'm not too crazy about this shade of blue either. It looks too turquoise for my taste. I'm pretty sure I ordered Bright Blue but will have to check. Seems like the only other option was Medium Blue.

Tell them you want an b body made with an e body pad. The floor pans might be a little different between and e, and b.

Thanks 71bird. I'll try that again. Year One did it for me around 1991 but it took a lot of back and forth. The guy on the other end of the phone didn't believe me about the heel pad not being correct. I'm surprised they still haven't changed anything.

Yesterday I emailed Bruce Weeks, customer service and product support of Year One regarding these heel pads. This was his reply. Stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed for an update...

"Tyler I appreciate the input. I have forwarded this to our R&D department and also ACC. I cannot promise this will accomplish anything but we will give it a try."
