New To The Nest

Post by 71RR » Sun Jun 25, 2006 11:32 pm

I have recently been directed here by a member (TeeWJay426) and this seems to be the place for me as I have a Gold Leaf Metallic '71 Roadrunner still in it's factory applied paint, chrome and interior. It currently has a mildly built 440 and A727B backed with the original 8 3/4 3.23 Sure Grip. This is my very first car and it will be with me until I die. I also have an '04 Dodge SRT-4 as my daily driver and it too is modified. I hope to get to know eveyone here and I already know road chicken and TeeWJay426 from other forums. Hopefully I can be of some help here as well as getting some help here as I need parts to get my Roadrunner restored to perfection.

Hey, welcome to the Nest! Here's the standard welcome comment: "post more pics of your Runner!" Please? We love to see them in any color, shape, or condition... :D

Welcome!

Thanks everyone! My screen name was taken too and I'm suprised the one I have here wasn't already taken as well.

My RR was originally a 383 car, but had a '73 400 HP motor in it when I bought it, the numbers matching 383 came later on a pallet and the numbers matching A727B was backing the 400. It currently has mildly built 440 that's 30 over with a healthy cam. It has the complete TTi 3" mandrel bent exhaust with H-pipe and Flowmaster 50 series mufflers attached to Dynomax ceramic coated headers. Lighting it's fire is the Mopar Performance electronic ignition conversion with an MSD Blaster 2 ignition coil and Accel 300+ race wires to light the CAM2. Up top it has the Edlebrock Performer 440 intake manfold, Holley 750 double pumper and Edlebrock drop base air cleaner with K & N filter and K & N filter lid. It has a Hemi oil pump and Mopar Performance windage tray as well as their viscous fan package and March aluminum crank pulley. The tranny is a street/strip built A727B leaving my numbers matching one with it's 383. The only other stuff I can think of right now is the stuff that just looks great.

Here's a pic of my RR:

very nice indeed! :D I was considering getting an SRT4...are they all they're made out to be in stock form? Kinda want a daily driver with some mileage without sacrificing speed. Once again, amazing.

Thanks again. I need to get the body and paint taken care of, but that requires money that I don't have yet.

Yes, the SRT-4 is everything you've heard and more even right out of the box. To put it in perspective, a stock '04 SRT-4 will run door to door with a stock '71 Roadrunner 440+6, auto, with a 4.10 geared Sure Grip. On the list of the 50 fastest muscle cars said RR is at #25. For some unknown reason the '04's are slightly faster than the '05's even though they are rated the same and the '04's also respond better to mods. The '03's are slightly lesser powered ('03's are 215 HP vs. the 230 HP of the '04-'05)with smaller fuel injectors (all '04-'05's have the Stage 1 injectors from the factory) and they also lack the limited slip differential. They all dyno as much or more at the wheels (226 WHP-246 WHP) than the factory rates them at the flywheel. The '04's can run 0-60 MPH in 5.3 seconds and 13.7-13.9 in the 1/4 mile at 103-105 MPH with a top speed around, to just beyond, it's 160 MPH speedometer reads. If you ever get the chance, take one out for a drive and see for yourself. If you get one, get an '04 or '05 for the previously mentioned reasons.

Here is perhaps the most unbiased review on the SRT-4 I've read: http://cars.ign.com/articles/553/553816p1.html

very cool about the srt. last summer we were looking to trade in my brother's ranger that i inheritied -- a 2003. they had two at the local lot, a black one and the fusion orange(?). I really am a fan of the orange and actually even the yellow. i've seen 2 around this area, both black and they were being driven like lincolns...slow. i saw 2 yellows on ebay with BINs of around 12-15K, with only 60 some thousand miles.

i'm not sure what the guy before me did to my satellite, bc we timed its 0-60 at 5 flat, but most of the time i don't give it near that much, because i now live in a congested, cop-infested city, so it's pretty easy on the throttle 'til i'm out of city limits.

thanks a lot

I was originally off-put by the SRT-4 being 4-door ONLY, as it should really have been made a 2-door and I cannot stand 4-doors. I also originally hated the Neons, but reading about them, their performance and their complete dominance in their class in SCCA racing, I took a better look at them and noticed the 2-door models didn't look too bad, especially the R/T's that came out for '98-'99. I had bought a '99 Neon R/T that had all the bolt-ons already on it and very low mileage and it was cheaper than stock R/T's with twice the mileage and older. It was a great car with no power options just the way I wanted one, except I would like to have had a sunroof and it in black with the silver stripes instead of white with blue stripes, and I wish I still had it, but it had to go so I could get the SRT-4.

In the end, as long as I like the looks of a car some, they can win me over if they have enough performance.

There is a fairly large group of street racers here and they gather in several spots around the city on friday and saturday nights. I moved at the end of last year and there they were just around the corner from me where they gathered, up to the end of the street I'm on and make a left and they're just up the street on the left. Now where I've moved to it's exactly the same thing, I go to the end of my street, make a left and they're right up the street on the left. It's as though they're following me and it's at a White Castle now. I went to get some Castles friday night and they were there clogging the lot and I pull around to the back for the drive-thru and I see a frickin' white Superbird sitting there  .WTF is a Superbird that should be at car shows doing there with them, because I know he's not racing it.

Very nice, I always did like the Rumble Bee package.

Is the RR tawny gold or butterscotch or another color.
