Time capsule SSP....it speaks to me

Post by 72 RR fan » Thu Sep 18, 2008 11:11 pm

Okay, so here's the deal...I look at the pics of this car a bit...I saved them on my computer...this car was for sale on Ebay a while back..in Minnesota..It was a no sale..reserve not met at $1300.

Why I like this car so much is that it's so dated...really reminds me of the cars of my younger years growing up in the 70s, going to high school in the 80s..

Someone customizied this early on. To me..it's pretty mean looking.."Jacked up in the back" as we called it, with the Keystone Classics and RWL tires. Sidepipes, they seem to fit on this car...The big exaggerated RR stripe fits the body contour pretty well over the Curious Yellow paint, and matches the vinyl top. I remember the hood scoops like this from my JC Whitney catalog...I like the Cal Custom gas pedal..that was one of my 80s requirements. The faded out shag carpet must have been a gas when this was built..Front spoilers look good too....the rear luggage rack??? Hmmmm...well you always gotta keep em guessin in some regard!

Anyway...this car speaks to me..kinda brings back memories of cars I saw as a kid...It reminds me of the bad asss* car the cool teenager down the road had....I think it'd be neat to restore it just like it is..in it's old school style...

I'm sure not everyone would share this vision.....but that's why there's apples and oranges...

Anyone else love it or hate it?

While I don't "hate" it, if I owned it the scoop, stripes, wheels and side pipes would come off... the luggage rack, front wings and yellow would STAY! :D

This is a prime example of making a Mopar your own car, just as most of us--but not all--did back in the day. Hell, it's even got the bare foot gas pedal--what did we call it, a Hang 10 pedal? And that shag carpet, it's the same color I had on the bronze bird back in the day. .. . .

Great example of taking ownership of your car and making it your own. . .

although the stripe is a bit too much like Starsky and Hutch, but heck, I'm surprised they didn't Daisy Duke it. . .

and that reminds me . . .how many small towns had their own versions of the General Lee, the Starsky and Hutch Torino, and or the Daisy Duke RR?

I love all 71/72's, that said....I don't think thats a hockey stick stripe, its a GOALIE STICK  , dam that thing is WIDE. And the mud flaps that could be put on a 18 wheeler, need to be downsized :P

I'm pretty much where Bruce is, taking off most of the extra's :stirpot: ....as much as I didn't like the luggage rack option in the past, I really like them now, so that stays. I also knew smellslike1974 would like this thing as is...you know, he's sets off the airport metal detector every time.

They aren't just "extras"...They are parts of someones personality bolted to that car.

And as you know...there are some unique personalities out there!

Well something about that car does hit a spot in my memory bank.
Actually kinda like it as is.
If I had it in my garage. I'd prob clean it up first. Take some time to think about it.
Side pipes grab curbs way to often.
Since it needs repaint the side Starsky/Hutch stripe wound prob go and the shag carpet.
Bigger tires under the fenders too.

I guess I'd change the whole thing to what I wanted.

well here's what someone did to my car...and really, i LOVED it like this...i dyed the interior to white, added the fuzzy front seat covers, changed the steering wheel, had some hippie bead things hangin from the mirror....pretty sweet!!! not to mention the painted on stripe, air shocks AND add-a-leafs, low profile BFGs on vintage slot mags....pretty cool indeed

I'll toss my $0.02 in on this. :) I really like the car - though not a big fan of the stripe or the pipes. The stripe really draws the eye away from the awesome body lines on the quarter, and the pipes, well - IMHO, I think the work on vans much better. I'd absolutely keep the hood, the wheels and the stance - that thing does look very much like what I saw in the high school parking lots!
