Front bumper 71 vs 72 roadrunner

Post by general » Thu Feb 22, 2007 9:57 am

I have two bumpers that have a heavy duty rubber strip in the lower center area of the bumper. It also has two slots for jack hooks. I need a 71 bumper and I was thinking of just filling in the two bumper jack slots before geting them re chromed. What I'm not sure about is this rubber strip. Was this an option in 71 or even available?? or was it specific to a 72 bumper and I should eigher find another bumper or fill those holes also.

thanks for the help!!

If I'm not mistaken, both of Eric's '71s have the rubber baby buggy bumper strip. Say that 10 times fast! :D

Yes, both of my cars are original and have the front rubber bumper guard (and both are 71s) there was also a rear rubber bumper guard option in 71 that ran the whole width of the bumper above the taillights. My B7 car has that too. Neither code shows on the fender tag, only the broadcast sheet. IMHO the bumpers look much better without them and I wouldn't put one on a car that didn't come with it originally. I can't stand them, but my car came with them and they are rare.
If you decide not to use them and the rubber is good...I'd be interested!

I know both bumpers I have are 72's. I'll take a closer look at it and let you know the condition of the rubber.
