Hello, I have the opportunity to purchase two 9 1/4 rear ends, one from a 1976 Cordoba and the other is from a 70s Polara. Can some one tell me if one or both would work in my 71 ssp? they are both sure-grip one is 3:55 the other is 3:90. Thanks

Why would you want to purchase two weak rearends? They weren't meant for serious power.

Didn't Rick at Mopar Action say those were a pretty decent rear end?

So you dont its a good idea? I'm just looking to replace my current 8 3/4 open axel with a sure-grip that has a better gear ratio. I can get both axles for about 300 bucks.

Am I talking to my self? There was a whole article on the 91/4 in one of the past issues of Mopar Action. They said a 91/4 is about 90% as strong as a Dana 60.

True dat, but how easy it is to get good gear sets or sure-grips for the 9 1/4?
Badfast, if you already have an 8 3/4 housing wouldn't be easier to just find a complete sure grip with your choice of gears? Unless you plan on putting 700 or more horsepower in front of it, the 8 3/4 will last forever.

I agree with you about the 8 3/4 , he asked about the 9 1/4 so thats why I said what I said.

I have heard the same thing, Next best thing to the dana. Only weak point is the c clips. Check the measurements between the spring perches and the axle flanges. Some years/body where different.

The Cordoba rear should be fine width wise.
The holes on the spring perches will be too large.
You can weld in a washer, or I think one of the suspension companies (FFI maybe?) sells some kind of adapter.
Verify the yoke fits your u-joint before you bolt it in.
You should be able to mix and match brake parts and cables to make it work.
