Road Runner Nest

I'm trying to discern what my RR came with for stripes and hood treatment. It came with V21 hood treatment and A87 decor group. What would the hood treatment look like being a non-airgrabber car? What stripes came with the A87 package? The fender tag has no mention of the roof strobe stripe.

The stripe treatment for the standard hood shows pretty well on the magazine ad car:

So the hood had no "blackout" paint - just the bulges with engine callout and the pinstripes in the indents?

Yes. All the stripes you'll be looking for are available as repops from the usual stripe and decal vendors.

The hood engine callouts were standard, the A87 package added the indent pinstripes (black vinyl not paint), rear tape blackout (not paint) that Bruce mentioned, an upgraded steering wheel (3 spoke with the horn buttons on each spoke) unless it was optioned up to the rim blow or tuff wheel, wheel opening mouldings and upgraded door panels (two color/insert).

Trying to make sure I understand - so the V21 option was for the standard hood callouts on a RR, and the A87 added the pinstripes.

Could the hood pinstripes have come in colors other than black, and if so, how do I discern what color they and the callouts would have been?

It is believed that the car has a build sheet under the rear seat, but the current owner hasn't confirmed that. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the car in person...

The A87 code included the V21 indent pinstripes....in fact the only way you could get the V21 pinstripes on a Road Runner was to order the A87 decor package (if my memory is correct...not looking at documentation at the moment). The hood engine callouts were standard on all road runners (without airgrabber) and did not have a separate code. On a 71 with the standard hood, the engine lettering will be white on a black background. The only color the pinstripes were available in was black.

I'd love to see any documentation on the car you can provide!

I've seen white on white interiors cars or white vinyl top cars.

I've seen white stripes too, but I've never confirmed they were original.

Engineering documentation (attached) shows only one part number for the stripes.

I've seen white stripes too including my own butterscotch car....something I have not gotten around to correcting yet. From the factory, they were only available in black.
