Sunroof

Post by pats71 » Sun Jul 17, 2011 11:45 pm

Is anyone out there re-making the stock sunroof for our cars? Don't know if there is one for sale somewhere or if they are just hard to find. My father told me they were hand crank design and not electric. Is it hard to install one on a car that didn't have one originally? Thanks.

I have never seen one being repo'd...I DID see a complete 71/72 roof with a factory sunroof for sale at Carlisle last week. I don't know if the guy ever sold it though.

The '71 & '72 B-body sun roofs were electric powered. The '73 & '74 version were hand crank. They're a different size too between the two types. Depending on where you live. I'm sure someone sells an aftermarket one that'll work. I see the lowriders out here with power sun roofs in cars I know that never came with them originally. Of course they don't mind spending mega bucks on their cars to have something.

I think I've read where G-series has installed sunroofs on cars that weren't equipped, maybe he'll respond to your post.

As stated, no one is remaking these sunroofs(like the factory). The original parts are very hard to come by. The prices add up VERY quickly for all the little stuff. I know other alternatives are available, but if you want it factory correct for 1971, it would have to be electric powered not the hand crank version. Also, hardly any parts are interchangeable between the electric and hand crank. If you are still interested in pursuing this and not scared off, PM me and I can point you in the right direction for pieces and parts.

It's your car, and you can do what you want with it, but if it were me and I wanted to create a sunroof car from one that wasn't already I'd start with a Satellite, not a somewhat rare road runner.

Yeah I see your point Eric. I really like all the options on my car and the way it came from the factory as is. Just would have been nice if it had a sunroof to go with that curious yellow :D

Don't let Eric hear me say this, but that would look good with a white bucket seat interior and a white canopy top. Otherwise not so much... :D

318 car or 383?

I'm glad he did. There is no place in Mopar nation for a butterscoth car. :stirpot: The B5 blue is a much better choice.
