paint color
As cool and as rare as these cars are, I'd paint it whatever color it was born with, especially if it's something different than most of the other restored cars out there...
In a way I agree with russ71. you should keep them the color of the tag. But you can always repaint the car, and as a teenager I would rather have it be a color that I enjoy looking at and is something that I like. So for now I'll paint the car as I prefer, then if I want a close to factory car I'll just sand and repaint the car.

RR color
Neon colors do get a lot of attention. Turns heads moving or standing still.
Sublime is the color of my 71 RR and if you don't hear it coming you see it. Either way it gets noticed. Black accents set that color off nicely. Paint it any color you want and have fun.

My favorite colours for a 71 Road Runner are:
Orange (w/ the black/orange interior)
Lemon Twist yellow
Citron Yella
In-Violet (w/ white interior & stripes)
Sassy Grass Green
I think the high impact colours really suit the cartoon theme of the Road Runners.
For 72 I think TB3 Street Basin Blue with the white interior and stripes is really sharp looking!
