had a ? from Moparts directed him here ...
" Andrew,
Can you please help me with some photos?
We have the engine and trans out of my 71RR. The engine is getting freshened up and we are finally doing the engine compartment. My car is a clone and was put together (by a previous owner) as more of a street machine than a OEM type restoration (ok with me). With the fuel system on the inner fender, I don't think that they had the vacuum canister and the horn in the correct locations. Would it be possible to get some pictures of the engine compartment in your green car or your orange one? Both sides and firewall would be helpful. I used to have a Mopar magazine with a red 71 V code car, but I can't find it. "
These are pics that I have ....

Ok, it was obvious where the air grabber vac. can went. However, now, my horn won't fit in the top position without hitting the vac. canister.

Do the 71/72 Road Runners with the air grabber hood use a different horn bracket?

I cannot swear to it but I think the'71 uses a short bracket

I agree, at least for most of the model year, the 71s had the short horn bracket

I thought the 71’ horn had the longer bracket but may have used both, mounted to the pass side inner fender forward of the A/G vacuum reservoir. In 72’ the horns had the shorter bracket and were mounted forward of the core support. I believe it was determined here a while back that the exact original location in 72’ was somewhat varied. I know from the one 71’ fender I have that the 72’ fenders have an additional set of horn mounting holes punched in the fender supports. There were photos posted here a while back that suggest the horns were on either side and possibly mounted the driver side core support as well originally. The addition of the charcoal canister in 72’, likely forced the relocation of the horn and redesign of its bracket.
Knowing the general layout of that pass inner fender, I would think that with the A/G vacuum reservoir mounted where it belongs, the longer bracket may have been necessary to position the horn further forward and away from the reservoir.
After studding the picture above, I don’t think the short bracket horn should have any interference problems with the reservoir if the bracket is installed to the horn correctly. I have seen some ads for repos that have the brackets mounted to the horns backwards.

You're right....I had brain fade there for a moment. I should have said, for most if not all of the 71 model year, cars got the older style LONG bracket. Sorry if I caused any confusion!

Anybody have a picture of this longer bracket? Year One sells two horns. One states that the bracket is 3 3/8 long and the other is 1 1/2 inches long. I think Year One said the long bracket was for 70 on back, but they could be wrong. I'm sure this long bracket would solve my problem.

I also was backwards on the long and short bracket, now I have to dig my horn out and see if I have the correct one. Update : I found my horn and I bought the short bracket
