340 weight

Does anyone know the weight difference between a 68 383 and a 73 340?

I am considering putting in a rebuilt 340 that gets about 396 hp and 410 ft lbs of torque at the crank.

Right now my RR gets 300 hp 325 ft lbs of torque at the rear wheels.

What do you think?

With the small block your car will handle better. Seems like it's a win win deal.

weight wise, you'll save some and most likely have a better-handling car, but if it's making 396 HP at the crank and your 383 is 300 HP at the wheels, your power will most likely not gain that much, once you figure in drivetrain power loss, you'll be approximately the same - and you'll need to change trans, etc. to get the small block in. i considered throwing in a rebuilt performance 360 in high school (guy would have traded me for my 440), but with the cost of all the other parts, it just wasn't worth it imo
