Road Runner Nest

Just bought a used tach for my 73 RR. Works, but will not go back down to zero after being shut off, stays around 1500 - 2000. I took it back out and when you move it by hand sometimes it will go back down to 0, but most of the time the needle gets hung up. Is very easy to manually push it back to 0. Any help would be appreciated.

Stock, I presume? If your gauges look like crap, you may want to just send them off for refinishing anyway and get the tach fixed at the same time. I know, it's not much help.

Oh, was your car originally a tach car? Just curious...

If you want to open it up, a squirt of electric motor cleaner (hobby shop item) or similar product might loosen up any solidified grease that could be hindering the movement of the needle.

Might be a cheap fix, won't cost much to try, anyway. Don't get it on the clear plastic lens of the gauge, though. That stuff will mar plastics.

Get it recalibrated.

Thanks for the help guys, did not think there was much I could do with it. I will probably send it out to have it checked out. I don't think it was a factory tach car.

my friends 87 Iroc did that...when you shut it off, it would stay at about 1200 i think...but when you'd turn it back on, it'd go down to 0, then up to where it should...dunno why

i agree with trying to lube it up first...anyone who's done it/researched it know how much it would cost to restore a standard (long sweep) cluster?
