What kind of finish if any is on the two phillips screws that hold the cassette door to the player? Both of mine are rusty, all the ones I see are rusted, that makes me think that they were unfinished. Thanks.

Mine are the same, fourforty6. I have seen them just with the chrome finish to them and painted black to match the face. I think they're suppose to be unpainted though.

rr6pak is correct, I have seen both too. I own four cassette units. Two of mine are unpainted, one painted, one rusty. Here are two photo's, the top one shows unpainted nuts, bottom one painted. Notice the dial used on the top cassette!! .........I have a complete e/b body console set up on the parts for sale board.

its not a radio, its a Chrysler factory cassette player. They were a rare option back in the day, and expensive at the time.
To get one now, plan on spending $150+ for a lower end unit, $250+ for a clean unit with both knobs, then you have all the metal brackets, and finally the upper and lower plastic housing. There are floor units like the photo's above, or console units like mine below.

Brian has the one that mounts to the center console. I have the one that mounts to the hump. They are way Cool, I think.

I was told only 137 total came in these cars. Heck, I didnt even know they made cassette players back in the day. I know some cars had 8 tracks but the cassettes didnt really catch on till the middle 70's.

What I remember is that casettes didn't catch on really well until the 1980's. Everyone I knew back at Ft. Carson in 1978 through 1981 were still using 8-tracks for their car, and reel to reel tapes in their home stereo systems.
But, the pictures here have given me an idea on how to mount my Craig Powerplay Quadraphonic 8 Track Tape Player (damn, could that compound noun get any longer?). Looks like I'm gonna have to do some fiberglass work. ..
