I wonder if a LED might fit in there? Surprisingly my 30 yr. old bulbs are still working!

I'm sure an LED would fit - but how would one go about wiring it? I doubt you can just stick an LED onto that fixture and just have it work, unless someone makes LED lights specifically for incandescent applications. Also, that light is a screw-type.
I'm worried I damaged the wiring because my initial attempt to remove it was from the wheel well instead of loosening the screws and pulling the little light cover off the fender top. I must've twisted the hell out of that wire!

Light is actually not a screw type, just the fitting that holds the light in place unscrews.

I am interested in two bulbs myself for the fender mounted turn signal. Also, is there a gasket that goes between teh turn signal and the fender itself? If so, where do I buy those from or just make my own out of carb. gasket?

What's the modern part number?

I just pulled the cover off and disassembled the light assy and the bulb appears to be 'one' with the plastic clear orange 'lens' bit... And it is definitely threaded. Any ideas? Is my lamp just stuck in there real good or were they supposed to be the same part?

They should look like this one:

The thumbscrew unscrews, the bulb should slide out and then the orange plastic slides out of the turn signal body as well.

Mine are different. They're longer and more pointed at the leading tip (car forward) and have a stabilizing spike that sticks down through the fender about 1cm forward from the nut that holds it on. The light fitting itself looks the same -- although as I mentioned, threaded.
Guess I need to take pics, but my good camera is at work. I'll try to take a decent phone pic and upload it before I go in.
