Road Runner Nest

I've seen more and more pix of Mopars on eBay that appear to have what looks like a pistol grip lever on a automatic slap stik console. It does not appear there has been any modification as you can see the small rectangular window that shows the gear position.

Anyone have any idea of where to get one of these?

ebay is a good place. otherwise, year one and the paddock have em...same price or a lil more than on ebay, tho. i think they're pretty cool, but i still don't get thow they work...i know there's a trigger, but i just don't know how easy it'd be to use

Year One and Paddock....DOH! (to quote Homer Simpson, pillar of intellect)

I assume there was some sort of button or trigger that would just push down on the rod in the middle of the stock shift lever, just like the button on the left of the T handle does.

Looks like $159.99 plus shipping I assume. It appears all you have to do is take the screw out that holds the plastic T lever on, take it off, slide the Gunslinger down over the stock shaft, put the screw back in and presto...you're off and running.

From the picture, which is a cutaway to show the interior mechanism, it looks like a pretty solid unit.

Now I have to decide if I want to (a) pay that much (b) have the shift lever sticking up that high!

My biggest issue is that you still see the console auto gear indicator....just doesn't look right with the pistol grip IMHO

Yeah I saw that too. There is a pix of one on their web site that appears to have a rectangular boot that covers up the gear selector. It looks like it just fits in the console cutout.

I suppose one could say you have no way of determining what gear you are in, but if you can't tell that, you probably shouldn't be driving anything in the first place, much less a Mopar. Now a Chevy guy....well maybe they can't tell without an indicator!

I just got off the phone with Jason who runs the place and who invented/makes them. He said the rubber boot was just one a customer got from Pep Boys and put it on himself. Looks like it is the same size as the cutout in the wood grain piece on the console.

I went ahead and ordered one so when I get it I'm going to look into finding a nice looking boot. I will try and find one that will not require drilling any holes in the wood grain part of the console.

Jason said the trigger is actuated by moving it up with your finger, unlike mashing the button on the T handle with your thumb. The handle is fastened to the shift lever by two set screws in the front of the handle that tighten down on the front of the lever. He said it comes with a bushing that you slide down the stock handle and it fills up the hole in the sliding gear indicator plate.

I'll take some pix when I get it and put it on, then post them here.

These guys make one that does not use a trigger, it is also angled.

I'll have to check that out...want to find out how exactly it replicates the "button" on th end of a T handle.

Not to mention its $80 more!

They have triggers,and other methods for the lock down and all.

how much is a full shifter,I have been to the links you guys posted but didnt see prices on full setups..

You push the whole shifter handle down a little pull it back to first gear and then click it forward like the slapstick.

OK...think I see how it works.

The only thing I would question is if you are using the slap stik from 1st, through 2nd then 3rd it seems a little more awkward to have to push the entire lever down to allow you to move through the gears.

The T handle button is really easy and I would imagine a trigger on the front (I will find out soon) would be pretty closet to that. That way you can keep your hand wrapped firmly around the lever just like the T handle.

If you have to physically push or move the whole lever down while at the same time moving it forward as opposed to just a thumb or finger...that seems a little more awkward. Also once you have moved to the next gear "gate" then you have to move the lever back up, or at least release pressure on it so it will spring back up. That too seems more awkward that just releasing a button trigger with a thumb or finger.

As I said, I'll know for sure soon. When I get mine I'll post a "product report" here!

No you dont have to push the shifter down to shift from 1st to second and to third. it ratchets forward just like the original slapstick.You only have to push it down to get it out of park into gear.and push it down to go from forward gears to reverse.
