Air grabber paint

Post by bandman » Wed Jun 20, 2007 5:15 pm

OK guys I hope this is the last AG question I will have for you.

What paint is used for the air grabber door and bubble? Black what?

The car is at the shop, I dropped off the newly fabricated hood. Now I just need to drop of the AG to be painted.

Thanks for the help!

Dennis

PS I know this has been asked before, but I just can't find it.

The A/G door and bubble top were painted organsol black from the factory (think textured)

Eric,

Thank you for the information.

I dropped off my AG bubble and door at the shop and told one of the guys it needed to be black organsol, he looked at me as if I had 3 eyes. He asked me if I had a sample, or if I know the texture. Any help, or ideas out there. The guys who run the shop are serious mopar guys, but they own pre 1970 cars.

Help,

Dennis

From what I hear it takes a certain technique to get it to lay right. If they're never heard of it, I'd be concerned about them getting it sprayed correctly!

Did some research via the internet for the correct paint. Yes black organsol is the same stuff they used on T/A hoods. It is also called black suede or black argent.

For those of you doing your own AG hood the paint number is

Ditzler Code DDL 9355

Thanks for the help guys.

Here ya go. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 369&rd=1,1
I saw another kit that comes in spray cans, but I cant seem to find it now. I think this would be better than the spray cans, you might run short if you get kit, you only get one can each (cleaner, organsol and top coat). I didnt think they put a top coat on that stuff, but I am often wrong. Good Luck!

The air cleaner top on an A/G car would be painted orange (not engine color) and the baseplate is a medium gloss black, not organsol.

Eric, if the car is NOT an A/G car, then what is the color for the '71? The air cleaner on my car needs to bo media blasted and re-done. I think it is the textured black/organsol but I've never sprayed that kind.

I've seen both wrinkle black and gloss black finishes on the standard air cleaners. Can't tell you if it was assembly plant specific or an early vs. late build thing.....
The wrinkle black is not organsol, it's similar to the hemi valve cover paint.
