Road Runner Nest

Just went to put on myfront bumper brackets and to my surprise, none of the four bolt holes had any welded nuts on the inside frame rails. Is this the way these B bodies are?? My ebody had the welded nuts. I find it strange that all four are not there, that's why I tought I would ask.

These B-bodies are just like the E-bodies in this regard--don't know what's up with yours, but there should be captive nuts for the bumper bolts inside the frame rails.

Thanks Bruce, that's what I wanted confirmed. Now I will try and see if they fell into the frame rails by sticking a magnet down there. Its strange all 4 are missing.

If you've seen the pics of my Road Runner lately, you'll see I know what I'm talking about, this roll-around caster thing bolts to the bumper bolt location...

I made some similar to yours except I mounted it to the K Frame mounting holes. I made the angle iron large enough so I can drill other hole spacing to accomodate bolting it to the bumper location if I wanted.
I'm now thinking of plug welding some nuts inside my frame rails. I checked this morning and no loose nuts inside my rails, someone must have taken them out .

This is a pretty common problem. When I restored my Satellite, and Cuda I had at least one nut on each car that tore loose when I broke the bracket bolts loose.

I fixed mine by drilling a couple of small holes on either side of the original bolt hole. Then I stuck a nut on a magnet and push it up to the correct spot through one of the frame holes. Once in place I just spot welded the nut in place through the two pre-drilled holes.

Thats a great Idea,my rearmost nuts on both sides are missing, I will have someone weld them on.

Another tip on this.....

To make sure the new nut is centered on the hole. Once you have it roughly in place with the magnet, spin a length of threaded rod, or a long bolt into the nut. Then you can hold the nut centered on the hole while you weld it. Probably don't need to say this, but.... be sure and wear welding gloves.
