Road Runner Nest

Hey guys,

I just got some very nice, new window felt strips for my 71 RR and have just installed the rear side window strips.
Now I need to install the outer strips on the doors and thats where **** hits the fan; It seems that I will need to remove the side door glass in order to get to some of the screws holding the felt strip onto the door!!! Is there a trick here? -and if not, will I need to re-adjust the side windows when I put the glass back in the door?

There is no trick. You will have to take the glass out. You shouldnt have to adjust it as long dont move any of the adjustments. When you take the inner door panel off you will see some phillips screws that go through the regulator mechanism through the lower part of the glass. I cant remember off hand how many there are. You will have to hold onto the round fastner on the back side where the screw is, the best thing for this is a spanner wrench, but it still is possible with out one. There a couple of cylinder shaped stops that also should come off. You will see them clearly they also have a phillips screw. Its not that hard to get done right and it will give you a chance to do a check on everything in the door like loose nuts and bolts, worn parts, ect.

Don't remove the glass

I ran into the same problem and was able to do it by just removing the bottom rubber stop in the door. It allowed me to roll the window down another inch or so. And TADA, I was able to get the screws in.

jepp I found out myself about the rubber stop trick.....after I had removed the glass and installed the felt strip on one door!!! Well, now I know how to get the window glass out:-D

Removing the rubber stop works perfect btw, easy and done in no time.

The big rubber stop right in the middle of the bottom of the door. I just used a small flat blade screw driver to push it out from the bottom. I didn't even have to completely remove the door panels.

Holy crap. I didnt think of that. Next time I will use that trick. I probably never noticed that cuz I think I have only done this while the doors were totally apart (freshly painted). Even an old dog can learn a new trick.
