Stripes, Emblems & Decals

How do you determine the exact locatons for the GTX emblems (3), the running bird decals (2), the standing bird decal (trunk lid) and most importantly the spacing/location of the "railroad track" hood decals that go from the horseshoes on the hood down to the top of the front fender wells?

My FSM, body manual and parts manual don't have any information about them.

The "road" & "runner" even I can figure out...just stick 'em in the holes!

One GTX emblem goes right beside your bird decal on the trunk lid on the passenger side. The other one is in the middle of your front fender above the line and says 440 underneath it. and are the same size as a 1970 GTX. That's '72 only. On a '73 it's only on the hood. :beer:

I have factory docs showing dimensional locations....I'll see if I can find the ones you're looking for

Not so sure about that. I've seen it that way, but mine came with the round standing bird on the right and the GTX emblem on the left side of the trunk lid. I know for sure it was that way because they had never been moved until I stripped the trunk for painting in 2004.

Again, not so. The location (behind the front wheel well, just above the break line) but there never was any "440" there. Only the GTX emblem.

I went by 2 restored cars, one is a hemi orange with a factory sun roof the other a green 440 4-speed car. They both have the same locations for the decals on them. As a matter of fact in 1982 I went and looked at a 72 hemi orange roadrunner GTX with the original paint and it was the same way and I tried to buy a 72 blue GTX and it was the same way. :beer:

the standard performance hood cars would not have had the engine callouts on the fenders behind the wheel opening (A/G cars did)

What's the difference between "standard performance" and "A/G"?

Ah, that explains it. All the cars I was discussing were air grabbers :lol:

I've seen an article about a car like mine and it had the GTX and standing bird on the same side. I wonder if those were put there by the dealer and some did it one way, some the other?

Since mine were never moved or altered I know for sure they came the way they are in the pix.

Gotta love it...life is like a box of chocolates...just like trim on a Mopar!

A/G = air grabber
standard performance hood is the one with two hood depressions

reason they put the engine callouts on the fenders with the air grabber hood is that it had no place for the callouts like the standard hood does...

Railroad Tracks & Callouts

Got the hood decals done! Went resonably smooth using the wetting method. All 22 pieces in each railroad track set are fastened together as a single unit. Only a minor problem. When you go over the top of the fender and down the side the top material (it holds the whole thing together) kind of bunches up as it's a compound curve. Made a small cut in it betwen the 8th and 9th row of stripes and it laid down nicely.

Took forever (or so it seemed) before the individual stripes were fully adhered to the trunk and the top material could be peeled off. Since it was the first time I'd ever done anything like this that may be normal.

Key was to take plenty of time getting things lined up (used masking tape on each side) then even more time in doing the squeegee thing.
