From page 70 of glove box owners manual
" the Manufacture's Customer Care Warranty will apply to cars used to tow trailers for non-commercial use, but if the loaded trailer weight exceeds 2,000 pounds, the following condition must be met:
(1) Equip the vehicle with a factory installed Trailer Towing Package (or equivalent equpiment)
(2) if the loaded tongue weight exceeds 200 pounds, equip the vehicle with a properly installed frame-type load equalizing hitch:
(3) in addition to the normal maintenace services, (a) change transmission oil and filter and adjust transmission bands every 24,000 miles and (b) change rear axle lubricant every 36,000 miles or 3 years (whichever occurs first);
(4) Loaded trailer weight must not exceed 4,000 pounds.
I guess #2000 as is and #4000 with Tow Package which is usually heavy duty radiator, tranny cooler, heavier shocks and or rear springs. Just not sure in 71, even an oiler cooler may be part of a Tow package.
Now why would you tow with a RR?
Good Luck

Thanks! I got to get me an owners manuel. The car does have the factory towing package and thought it would be neat to tow my other car to the strip with. My other car and trailer should weigh under 4,000 but not much under- 3,800 about.

From what I can tell on my car it includes- factory trailer wiring, hitch(looks dealer installed), extra leaf in the spring rack, rear sway bar but no trans cooler.

Is your car an auto trans of manual?

727 needs a tranny cooler

If you have a 727 AT you will need a tranny cooler. Fried a tranny in a Chevy van I used to tow my boat. Now I have a tow package in my Ford van to tow with a Tranny cooler.
If you row the gears you'll be OK.

oops- I posted the same thing twice. Yes, I have a 727 trans and I will put in a trans cooler. I will only be towing 50 miles one way about ten times a year.
