73 RR fendertag questions

attached is a pic of my fendertag decodes. its a full vinyl roof car, hence no roof decal, but would there not be a code for a hood decal kit?

The car is a RM21 car, hence its a coupe and not a hardtop. How many "coupe" RR's were there? Is this even a coupe or a sedan as seen by the fendertag decode? The rear windows are fixed and do not roll down. What does that classify it as?

Lastly, the build date is 7/26/73. Where in the scheme of things does this date mark this car? Is it one of the last RR's made, when is the last date before they switch over to '74 model years? Thanks.

There are probably guys who will reply that are better at this than I, but I'll take the first stab at it. The 21 in your VIN number denotes the body style. Hence, my 2-door hardtop RR with roll down back windows is RM23 and your 21 is a "coupe" with fixed windows.

Not sure why you don't see a code for the hood tape stripe. Did your car have it?

Yes, 7/26/73 is a pretty late builld date for a '73. They may very well have been building the earliest '74s around that same time. I'm not sure there is a "set" date for the model year switch over, but I know of pilot cars for the following year that also have July build dates...

what does the DX9 code stand for? I cannot find it anywhere.

Well, X9 means black. So I'm guessing the interior side of the doors is painted black to match the door panels. I only have the '69 tp '71 White Book, so I don't have codes for '73, therefore I'm not sure what the "D" stands for. But just like your tag is decoded, that's got to be what it is--black paint on the interior side of the doors.
