71 Roadrunner 383 sell complete or part out.

Post by STROKER340 » Fri Apr 15, 2005 12:15 pm

Looking for some advice regarding my runner. I have a 71 383 auto #'s matching car. It is complete and original but rough. It has been off the road since 1986 until I purchased it and started to restore it. I got the motor rebuilt and back in and running. I'm in the process of doing the brakes and gas tank right now. Now i purchased a different project and can't afford to do 2 cars. It is tawny gold with a gold canopy top and gold stripe. P/s, p/b, disc brakes, rally wheels, hood pins, buckets with console, and the rarest piece is 6 way drivers seat. It has 3.23 posi in it and I have the broadcast sheet for it. The seats are good but the headliner and carpet are gone. The frame, floors and trunk floor are all good. It needs front fenders, rockers, quarters, inner fenders, and trunk. I have a set of 72 fenders to repair the originals. I also have a decklid, pass door, grille, and extra set of bumpers. My question is do I part it out or sell it complete. I have someone who wants the driveline but I don't know if I should destroy a #'s matching car. Help? What is it worth?

It is sad to hear that you may part it out, I could only hope that someone buys it to restore. If you do part it out, I need the seats, please let me know.
Do you have any pictures of the car?

Wow! Sounds like a really neat car. That's quite a rare color combination, let alone the rest of the options. I'd hate to see that car get parted out, especially since it's numbers matching with a broadcast sheet. With all the parts you have for it, I'm sure somebody would want to pick up where you are leaving off and see it through to the end. I wish I had room for it, just to tuck it way for after Project Blue Bird is complete.

I'm sure if you post an ad in the Classifieds here, and over on Moparts.com, you'll be able to sell it to fund your other project.

BTW, what's the other project you've picked up? :D

The other project is a 37 Ply 2door sedan. What is a fair price with the descriptions i've given. Just looking for a ballpark figure. I know it's tough without any photo's. Hopefully I can post some soon.

Wow... is the 37 going to be a street rod project? Very cool!

Oh sure, what's it worth? ;) I'll give ya $100 for it. ;)

:haha:

Seriously though, from what you describe, based on it's condition, and it's uniqueness (plus of course, it's numbers matching situation), $3-4,000 might not be out of line for it, plus all the parts you have for it. Maybe more, if you toss it on eBay or something. Granted, I'm being conservative here, not having some pictures to look at.

The 37 is 80% restored to original so I have to finish it that way for now. If I don't like it when it's done I may rod it. That's about what I was thinking it was worth complete. I'm afraid to put it on e-bay and have someone feel they paid to much for it without seeing it in person. As much as you try and give an honest description pictures can be very desceptive.

Restored to original, that 37 will really stand out. It's a rare bear to beging with, and you don't see that many restored to stock either.

I know what you mean on that worry on eBay. My rule of thumb is to always be super critical of the flaws of the car, and make a BUNCH of detail pictures of the bad areas available. Of course, you need to take some good "glamor" shots of the car to get people interested, but good detail pictures tend to help people better understand what they are getting into.

I've sold a few cars on eBay, and only once had someone unhappy with the car when they got here. Turns out, they didn't really READ the text, just looked at the first couple pictures, and bid. After I printed out the auction and they took the time to read it, they were only unhappy with themselves rather than with me.

Does the car still have it's fender tag? If so, I'd love to get the codes from it, so I can include it in the registry of 71-74's I've been working on in my spare time.

I can't say what you'd get out of the parts individually, but it would really be a shame to part out a #s matching car that is restorable. What the car is worth complete really depends on what parts are needed to finish it. Obviously with the amount of body work needed, original parts in good condition such as interior stuff becomes more important.

Sold the car with all the parts. Thanks for the help. The car went to northern Wisconsen and hopefully will get restored. :)
