Here's one for you, when i sanded down my glove box for my '71 GTX to be painted, it had a black
hinge, From oct 28 70,windsor CAN built car. When i seen what was there, there was a hinge (with 4 screws), but on my other one there was no hinge. It was part of the glove box, with no screws. It was built in jan of '71 built in St. Loius U.S.A.. I have pictures for you if you like to see. I am confused.

I don't recall ever noticing a difference before. Of the two cars I have now:
70 August built LA - separate hinge
70 December built St Louis - separate hinge

Very Interesting. Looks like they went to an integrated hinge at some point in the model year. In the pic below, screwed on hinge from my St Louis Aug '70 SSP on the left, Integrated hinge from my St Louis Mar '71 SSP on the right.
We could continue this thread with a poll:
1) Separate Hinge or Integrated Hinge.
2) Build Month of your 1971 model year car.
3) Assembly Plant of your car.

Integrated hinge and with cable travel stop rather than the rigid steel one shown in previous photo.
