Road Runner Nest

I got my 1974 GTX model kits in the mail today.The hood is a '73 with the "grates'' or ''drain holes'' in the back near the windsheild. They are exactly the same as the early 80's release of the kit. It comes with The decals that came in the earlier kit . It does not come with the Road Runner stripes it shows on the box but they can be found on ebay. It even has the later style "star" center rallye wheels and those cragar ss/t looking rims. It wont be long till AMT will release the '71 Road Runner kit again...I hope.

hey if you look at the model on the box you can see its a old oringinal issue that some one built i think its areal scam they show it with the "right" stripes and the s/s cragers oh and on the 71 roadrunner i think you can forget that coming back because of all the licencing stuff cant call it a roadrunner any more :x but im glad they brought this kit back i needed parts for my original issue builders

I bought four of those kits (I also built the original MPC '74 GTX when it was first issued)... Opened one up to inspect it:

- Interestingly enough, it comes with Super Bird pieces (wing on the back)

- The dashboard is WRONG. The one that comes with this kit is the dash board from the '75 Road Runner kit. The original issue had the right dash board.

- The original had an embossed RR decal on the trunk and on the front valence panel, this one does not.

- The original was modeled in red, this one in grey.

- Both have "'74 Plymouth Road Runner" marked on the plastic piece that connects the front and rear windshield.

It wont be long till AMT will release the '71 Road Runner kit again...I hope.

The way to get around that is to call it a '71 GTX, however since Revel makes a 1/24 scale version, you can pretty much write THAT off. *BUT*, what might be released (doubtful but possible), is a '72 GTX (which would be AWESOME) or maybe a '71 Satellite...

But again, since Revel makes the '71 GTX, you probably won't see any of them because these companies tend not to overlap kits and scales...

AMT did announce the 1971 1/25 kit for 2003 if memory serves me right. It was even in their catalog

My local hobby shop claimed that the AMT molds probably needed work or were shot and that is why the kit was not released.

Good to see AMT released the 74 version. Beats paying $100 in a bidding war on eBay! Or pleading with collectors for originals.
