You could use a title service company to get a title in your state. Last time I used one it cost about 300. Welcome and good luck!

I believe the two companies most commonly used are Broadway Title Company and International Title Company. The way they work it involves "selling" the car on paper to a friend who lives in a state that will work with them and then re-selling the car (through the company) to you. There are quite a few states who know what they do and won't play ball. Be sure to check their list of states that won't work with them.
All that said, I've got a couple friends who have used Broadway and said it works...

Depending on what kind of scrap yard, they may collect the vehicles titles upon entry of the yard,if there is a title, you should try at the yard it was bought from,if they dont have the title they may have records of who bought it,then try contacting them.
We had the same situation,we had gotten a 66 vw ghia, the owner had crashed it,the company said it was totald so my dad got it cuz he knew he could fix it.Well the guy still has the title,so the dmv said in order to get a teh priginal title my dad would have to contact that owner and the owner would have to sign the original, but he couldnt get ahold of the guy.So the next option would be to file for lost title.

I used international title service for my son's 71 Charger. No problems in Missouri, $125.00.
