NEED STEERING COLUMN NUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anybody repop them or are they just a hardware store nut or does anyone have one.it's the nut that hold the steering wheel to the column.please let me know.i got my 72 roadrunner running and driving yesterday and the wheel fell off! :shock:

please anyone let me know if they have from a parts car or something?

Im pretty sure they sell the nuts,it would be no different then getting a new steering wheel with the accessories,but then again if you want it original i dont know.

it shouldn't matter if it's an original wheel or not, as the nut will be the same either way. did something break? it's harder than crap to get a wheel off sometimes, so something either broke or wasn't tight to begin with imo

no someone took wheel off when parked so it would detour thieves.but lost nut.steering wheel is back on and i can drive it but if i pull it'll pull off.

I was talking about if he wanted an original "nut" if theres such a thing,lol

then yeah, you should be able to just get a nut at a hardware store...don't remember the size, but i think you use an 11/16 or 13/16 wrench on it...IF i remember right :lol:

those nuts are special fine threads if memory serves me, don't mess up those threads with any type hardware store nut, you'll end up replacing entire column, you should just go to a junkyard, any nut off any old mopar should fit as long as its between 69-74 years

I can't specifically remember the size, but a hardware store locknut will work fine. I believe it is 1/2-24. I had to replace mine on the GTX.

The thread depth on the shaft is not very deap, but it is a standard thread count.

1/2 -24 would be your fine thread, i think 1/2 -12 is coarse

1/2 - 13 is UNC or coarse
1/2 - 20 is UNF or fine
1/2 - 28 is UNEF or extra fine

There is a 1/2 - 24 but thats UNS or special thread. Special threads are pretty rare. I don't have a clue what size the nut would be but the easiest way is if you know someone with a caliper or micrometer to measure the outside of the thread to check the size then use a thread gauge to figure out the threads per inch. Here is a guide on how many 1/2 threads they make but in my 17 yrs of being a machinist I have only really ever seen 13, 20 and 28 threads per inch most the others are quite rare to see. I have seen a few others on that list but never on vehicles but stuff we had to make for the military.

If I had my car near by I would go check but its not close. :(

thank you rs,its been awhile since my days as a machinist, i use to know all that stuff about calipers and micrometers, i just didn't want the other fella to run down there and buy something he thought was right and mess his whole steering column up

1/2 -20 is probably correct. I used a thread gage to check mine when I replaced it, but my memory is not so hot.

I think I've actually got an extra in the garage. I'll try to remember to dig it out and check it tonight.

1/2-20 it is

It is 1/2-20. I found my extra lock-nut.

You can find them in the hardware drawers at your local Lowes.
