Dare I... Miracle?

Post by billzilla » Sat Mar 29, 2008 2:19 pm

Will I be excommunicated from the boards if I dare to go with a cheap Miracle job? They're doing my brother's 510 and doing welding, rust patch work for $2500 -- that's with their single stage but not bottom-line Ultrathane paint.

Around here (SF Bay Area) the cheapest full 2 stage paint quote I've gotten with rust patching and bodywork is $6000. Two other quotes were over $10,000.

So, I think I can get a 2-stage paint plus rust repair from them for $2500. There's little rust on my car in the first place, so it won't be like whole panels or anything. More like minor patches/welds. The guy promises the rust will be gone and I think the paint has a warranty for 2 or 3 years. He'll also throw in a satin black hood stripe like delorean has ;)

What do you guys think?

See how your bother's turns out. If he and you are satisfied then I'd say go for it.

I agree with Ctownrunner, wait to see how your brothers turns out...if it decent, then go for it! :)

Let be honest, its not a GTX or RR, so putting $10,000 in a paint job is not a good money decision with a Satellite (I own a Satellite too). Even if you put 10K in a paint job, you would almost be afraid to drive it, and be so pissed if you get a paint chip, etc.

So if your brothers turns out OK, I'd go for it. Then you have a car that looks good, and you can still drive it as much as you want, without worrying like crazy about the paint. Hotwheelsjr, son's 73 SSP/RR clone was painted for $850 (just the paint job not bodywork), and his car looks great. If your like me, your car is NOT a show only car, brought out only three or four times a year.

good luck! :D

Excellent points. I agree, it's not worth a $10K paintjob. I mean, even if it was a $20K+ car once painted (who knows, right?), I still just flat out don't have that kind of change to put into it right now.

Do it!! As long as it is a two stage paint your should be fine. Just never do a single stage paint on a gold, it will look dull and fade out fast. Hell for $2500 you could afford to repaint again in 5 years if it goes to crap. Remember I almost $10k in to paint, body and extras. So $2500 is great!! Also make sure they dont hit your SS trim around the windows with a DA sander. I would suggest pulling everything off before sending it in. Even if they say they will pull it off, most of the time they will "forget" and just mask it off.

Just my $.02, do as you please.
