Lettin’ the cat out of the bag… my new GTX... UPDATE

Sometime in the next few weeks I’ll be heading down to Texas to pick up my next toy.

I’m sure some of you are familiar with this car. It has been on and off the market a couple of times in the last year or so.

It’s not exactly what I was looking for (4 spd w/air grabber), but it will suffice quite nicely, and it fit the budget. I’ve got a long-term vision for this car.

Short term, the first order of business will be to install power steering and power disc brakes. From experience with the GY3 car, I know these are just necessities for day to day survival. With the auto, driving this car won’t be quite as much as a workout as the yellow one but around town the lack of PS just sucks (I think the GY3 car has a fast ratio box making matters worse). This thing has a Tuff Wheel to boot, which won’t help. The disc brakes are simply a matter of protecting my investment. I’ve already got some of the parts required, and may have it all before I even get the car home.

A little further down the road, I’m probably going to install A/C. Might have to upgrade the cooling before that though since this is a 22” radiator car.

And beyond that, it’s going to get an Air Grabber. This sucker will look absolutely sinister without the V7W stripes, and that Air Grabber hood. I’m going to take my time scrounging the parts for that project. We may not see that for a few years. In the interim I am considering just removing the stripes.

Depending on how things come together, I may take the car on the Hot Rod Power Tour this year. I’d really like to have A/C in place (and my wife demands it) for that trip.

Been tracking that car for some time now. Very nice!!! Actually, the V7W stripe is the body pinstripe, not the hood/fender stripes on the car now. If I were you, I'd put it back on.

Nice looking car.. At 1st glance I thought it looked like the one sold from Texas Toy Box until I spotted the blue interior.

If you are picking it up anywhere close to Austin, TX pm me. I would love to look at it 1st hand and have a beer.

I always get those two stripes mixed-up. V8* is the hood stripe, eh? I've never been a big fan of the GTX stripe, even though both of my cars have had one. Heck, I've got one painted on my mail box. LOL

Nice car! I got almost the same car, 72 GTX , TX9 but B5 interior...

Original Airgrabber car...

rather install 11.75" brakes and keep the manual brakes, no reason to step up to PB! :)

WOW, Love it.

Looks like the six BBLs have been gone over. That can be a good thing. The carb cleaner sometimes takes off the Gold anodizing. If you have a question on Six pak care and feeding, write back. Had them on my Bee since 1989. I'm no expert, but I learn from my mistakes, which have been plenty. Raced 'em for 15 years. Retired it to back street duty.

Good luck with it. Looks like max smiles per mile. Mike

I just found this while surfing around the net so I guess you are coming to Austin if this ad isn't yrs old. 8)

I knew when you posted the pic of that car it looked familiar. I knew there was 1 or 2 '71 GTXs around Austin,TX.
